It’s time for our Stray Dog Digs, but we are shaking it up this time!
Did September fly by for everyone else? It sure did for us. Our office is perched on the side of a mountain in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and the weather has been unbearable. We have had 45 days of temperatures hitting 90 degrees or more, setting a 147- year record. And not to mention the lack of rain!
So, as you might imagine, these disheartening high temperatures have us dreaming of fall. Cool days, changing leaves, reading books, curling up somewhere cozy.
So we decided to dream up some spaces of our own.
Our office team took the creative liberty to each design a space we would want to be in this fall. We each put together our own little fall dream world featuring leafy lights, antiques, artists we love, local textiles, books, games, clothes, and, of course, some Stray Dog sprinkled in.
Jane's Great Living Space:
I wanted to create a snug space where one could sock in on a blustery fall day and read a great book or flip through pretty magazines or play games with friends and family.
A super comfy sofa is obviously essential in such a space, and I think this one looks like it fits the bill nicely. I, like Franny, included a Josef Frank-inspired item...seems that obsession runs in the family. And, as you might have noticed by looking at my designs, I am always inspired by and happiest when surrounded with flora and fauna and I think that is evident in the furnishings I have chosen for my "fall dream room".

Franny's Family Room:
I based this cozy family room entirely around the vintage Josef Frank couch. I searched for “mushroom couch” because I knew that was the feeling I was looking for: fall crunch, dark hues, and wild, patterned things everywhere.
I wanted it to feel like one of those little dens you find in children’s books, where the animals have entire homes tucked underneath the earth’s surface. A place for lilies, mushrooms, chickens, moths, games, pajamas, and a cup of tea.

One-of-a-kind Multi-Drawer Wooden Dresser from Celadon Home. I love knick-knacks! For this family room, I envision games, books, and art supplies filling the numerous crannies of this wooden shelf, with little treasures tucked into every nook and cranny.

Chicken Art! Something about these two critters feel like fall to me. They are full of texture, patterns, and colors and would make my fall room extra lively. The chicken is painted by an artist and dear friend of ours in San Miguel, Polly Stark Ortega. The moth is a print pulled from Pinterest just to give ya the gist!

These 'Vote' Cups that I am in LOVE with. Hope is a family friend and local artist here in Chattanooga, and all of her pottery is so lovely, but these Porcelain Political Cups are just fabulous. They have a nostalgic feeling that reminds me of Calico Critters and an important message.

As fall arrives, I love the lack of transition from inside to outside. The door to the covered porch doesn't need to close because the air conditioning or heat isn’t on yet. The outside world has a dryish, crisp feel. The leaves are curling at the ends, and the orange, green, and yellow are blending...
This is the time to just hang. Throw a blanket on. Have a nice heavy cocktail, maybe play a bit of ping pong. Let color still rule, but let's be a bit moody....
